Hand in Hand

Tony Bourdain is a strong influence on me, not with his cooking, but with his writing.

Mentioning Bobby in an earlier post without even a passing reference to Tony is unexcusable; and here is my lame excuse for not doing so.  I had intended to save it for a future post, as soon as I had some more materials hopefully borne out of a personal interaction with him; which at this point doesn't look too realistic in the next 12 months.

To somehow meekly make up for it, here is a link.

AB was in the Philippines. His FilAm host failed miserably in showing him around. Resulted in a half baked show about the Philippines.

You would have been the perfect person to show him how it is done in the Philippines.

Thank you. I don't think that will ever happen, but it is something nice to think about. thank you for putting a smile on my face. :)

if i do get a call from AB to take care of him for a day in our country, what would I line up? hmmm... here is an idea.

1) first, drive 40 mins through Cavite to get to TERESA'S Garden along Km 48(?) of Aguinaldo Hi-way for a breakfast of skewered fried tawilis and fried aromatic rice served with batangas tsokolate. then a short meet and greet with Teresa who will surely tour Tony through her flowers and orchids. lots of soundbite possibilities mainly of Tony reacting to Teresa. hahaha.

2) another 30 mins drive towards that beach town below tagaytay which is accessible through a small road just to the left of the tagaytay rotunda, to park cars at the resorts beside the taal yacht club. then take a short boatride towards taal volcano crater, where locals will catch fresh tawilis, then proceed to hike up towards the top part of the crater for the tawilis barbecue plus a generous serving of sour maliputo soup.

3) have incremental discussions with the natives why they insist on living right in front of an active volcano.

4) bring in a hawaiian who has been living in Taal for over 20 years for a short face to face with Tony. The hawaiian guy serves a mean pinaputok na talakitok which i last tasted in 1994.

5) have a nice long smoke back in tagaytay ridge, while waiting for the fog to roll in and cover the crater.

6) fade to black.

so, how does that sound?

Marvelous idea.
Add "meat in tube form" in there and you've got a winner.
You should be writing for a travel magazine.
Better yet, you should host one.
